The University of Perpetual Help Junior Altas shrugged off distractions ahead of Game 1 of the NCAA Season 99 juniors basketball finals against the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Squires on Saturday morning at the FilOil EcoOil Arena in San Juan.
A Junior Altas official, speaking to Fastbreak on condition of anonymity, stated that they refused to be affected by the disruptions, including one that circulated online on Friday evening.
“May Jesus be the center of this competition. Whoever wins the finals, may Jesus be glorified,” a Junior Altas official said. “Distractions lang po ito. May the officiating be fair. In Jesus name. Amen!”
“By God’s grace, we will just give our percent. God bless,” he added.
One of the distractions in question was a social media post by sports insider Snow Badua, who reported through a “kuliglig” that one of the teams competing in the Finals allegedly made an “offer” to the referees.
Adding credibility to Badua’s rumors is the fact that the aforementioned post was reposted by Frank Lao, the main backer of the defending NCAA junior basketball champions Squires, on his Facebook account.
This marks the Junior Altas’ first-ever final appearance since joining the NCAA in 1994.
