Despite having a powerhouse lineup on paper, TNT Tropang Giga head coach Vincent “Chot” Reyes said his team is still a work in progress in the ongoing PBA Philippine Cup.
According to Reyes, the Tropang Giga is still way behind compared to the elite teams such as the San Miguel Beermen, the Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings, and the Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots.
“We are still a work in progress; I think we are still far from the elite teams in the league,” Reyes said after the Tropang Giga’s come-from-behind 108-101 win over the Phoenix Fuel Masters on Wednesday night.
The former Gilas Pilipinas mentor further stated that he has yet to see the Tropang Giga play “a quality 48-minute game” following their slow starts against the Gin Kings and the Fuel Masters.
“In our past two games, we have had a bad first half and a good second half,” Reyes said. “Against Ginebra, we were not able to bounce back, but against Phoenix, we were able to recover.”
“Actually, we haven’t played a complete game yet this conference. What I am saying is a quality 48-minute game,” he added. “If you are facing the elite teams, you need to have a quality game; if not, you will have a harder chance of winning.”
The Tropang Giga are currently in fifth place in the standings with a 5-4 win-loss slate and still have two games left in their schedule against the Converge FiberXers on May 1 and the Hotshots on May 5.
