NxLed Chameleons head coach Taka Minowa criticized the Philippine National Volleyball Federation (PNVF) for its apparent lack of urgency in forming a Philippine women’s volleyball team for the 2024 AVC Challenge Cup for Women, scheduled from May 22 to 29 in the Philippines.
Minowa took to social media to express his frustration, suggesting that the PNVF could assemble a national team from the players of the eight squads already competing in the Premier Volleyball League 1st All-Filipino Conference.
“When Philippine National Team will start training? 8 teams already finished this PVL and National team will start games 19days later,” the Japanese coach wrote on his Instagram story on Friday night.
The AVC Cup marks Jorge Edson Souza de Brito’s last stint as the Philippine women’s volleyball team head coach, as his contract will not be renewed.
The Philippines will compete against teams from Vietnam, Indonesia, Chinese Taipei, Iran, Australia, and two teams from India during the week-long tournament.
Criticism from Filipino volleyball fans persists regarding the PNVF’s tendency to form the national women’s volleyball team hastily for international tournaments in recent years.
