Christian Fajarito drilled a go-ahead basket as the South Cotabato Warriors pulled off an 82-81 victory over the Biñan Tatak Gel Beast Motorcycle Tire Game X in the 2024 MPBL Season on Thursday night at the Alonte Sports Arena in Biñan, Laguna.
Down 78-81 with over a minute left, the Warriors cut the deficit to 80-81 on two free throws by Jammer Jamito before taking a one-point lead on a bank shot by Fajarito with 11 seconds left.
Biñan still had a chance to snatch the victory, but Pamboy Raymundo missed his three-point attempt, while Fajarito sealed the win by grabbing the defensive rebound away from Biñan’s Jaymar Gimpayan.
Fajarito finished with 19 points, with 17 coming in the second half, to go with eight rebounds, four assists, and two steals as the Warriors notched their seventh straight win for a 9-3 win-loss slate.
“Hindi talaga para sa akin ‘yung (game-winning basket), siguro nadala na lang din ng momentum,” Fajarito said after the game. “Sumunod lang kami sa sistema ni coach, kaya nakabawi kami sa larong ito.”
Jamito posted a double-double of 13 points and 11 rebounds, while Nico Elorde and Val Acuna contributed 10 markers apiece for South Cotabato, which played without star gunner John Wilson.
Gimpayan finished with a double-double of 18 points and 11 rebounds, while Rommel Niño Cañaleta added 15 markers for Biñan, which suffered their third straight loss for a 6-3 record.
