Former NBA player Chase Budinger is headed to the 2024 Paris Olympics, but in a different sport.
The 36-year-old Budinger earned his Olympic qualification as a member of the United States men’s beach volleyball team along with Miles Evans.
The 6-foot-6 Budinger is no stranger to volleyball, having been a two-sport athlete during his high school days at La Costa Canyon High School in Encinitas, California.
“Most guys, when they finish a sport, they’re kind of confused, or they’re kind of lost for the next journey,” Budinger said in an interview with the Sandcast volleyball podcast.
“I was lucky enough to just transition into a different sport immediately and play at the highest level,” added the seven-year NBA veteran.
Budinger started his NBA career in 2009, playing for the Houston Rockets, Minnesota Timberwolves, Indiana Pacers, and Phoenix Suns. He had a career average of 7.9 points, 3.0 rebounds, and 1.2 assists.
The Encinitas, California-native, wrapped up his basketball career as an import for the Saski Baskonia in Spain in 2017 before he transitioned to volleyball a year later.
