Aris Dionisio waxes hot as Magnolia defeats NorthPort

Aris Dionisio caught fire from the three-point area as the Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots defeated the NorthPort Batang Pier, 110-94, in the PBA Governors’ Cup on Friday night at the Ninoy Aquino Stadium in Manila.

The former St. Clare College of Caloocan Saints standout connected nine of his 11 three-point attempts to finish with a career-high of 30 points as the Hotshots improved to a 5-4 win-loss slate.

“Every day naman maaga ako pumupunta sa training, nagmumuni-muni, and kapag nafe-feel ko na puwede na ako humawak ng bola, ayun practice ng shooting, hindi puwedeng hindi ako magsho-shooting,” Dionisio said.

Hotshots head coach Chito Victolero, for his part, said he was delighted with his team’s bounce back from their heartbreaking 84-82 defeat to the TNT Tropang Giga on Tuesday night.

“We are more focused and ‘yung desire namin to win. This is the most important game for us kasi it’s the game we need to win to go to the quarterfinals,” Victolero said in a post-game presser.

“I am proud of the guys because they bounced back hard from our defeat, and I told my players na gawin lang kung ano ‘yung ginawa namin last game we have a bigger chance of winning,” he added.

Both the Hotshots and the Batang Pier played all-Filipino in the contest, with the former’s Shabazz Muhammad being rested due to an ankle injury, while the latter’s Venky Jois was ruled out for the rest of the conference due to an Achilles injury.

The Batang Pier, on the other hand, dropped to 3-6 with the loss.
