DLSU’s Kevin Quiambao aims to coach after playing career

De La Salle University Green Archers star forward Kevin Quiambao plans to pursue a career as a basketball coach once his professional playing days are over.

In an interview with Bilyonaryo News Channel’s The Scorecard, Quiambao expressed his desire to become a coach, aiming to pass on the knowledge he gained from his coaches to younger players.

“Fifteen years from now, hopefully, coaching din,” Quiambao said. “Pero now focus ko muna is itong (UAAP) season na ito then maging professional basketball player.”

“Kung ano ‘yung ininstill sa akin ni (Green Archers head) coach Topex (Robinson), hopefully mainstill ko din sa new generation pagdating ng panahon na ‘yun (na maging coach ako),” he added.

The Muntinlupa City native stated that his desire to play basketball was fueled when he watched a game of former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagles forward Ryan Buenafe.

Quiambao was then recruited to the National University Nazareth School Bullpups, where he played a supporting role for Carl Tamayo, until he moved to the Green Archers for college.

The Gilas Pilipinas forward also said he wants to be a successful basketball player to help his family, but he also wants to have his own business for possible fallback.

“Buhay ko na ‘yung basketball eh so gusto ko maging successful dito,” he said. “And nagsisimula na din ako ng business, side hustles, kasi dapat may parang fallback ka if hindi ka nagsucceed as basketball player.”
