The Cignal HD Spikers relied on their experience to defeat the De La Salle-EcoOil Green Spikers, 25-21, 25-12, 25-19, in the Spikers’ Turf Invitational Conference on Friday night at the Ynares Sports Arena in Pasig City.
Louie Ramirez shone with 16 points on an efficient 15-of-24 attacking clip as the HD Spikers notched their fourth consecutive victory to improve to a 5-1 win-loss slate.
Lloyd Josafat and Wendell Miguel contributed nine points apiece, JM Ronquillo added eight points, and JP Bugaoan delivered seven points, including four blocks, for Cignal.
“I’m very happy lalo na nung second set na ang errors namin ay four lang. I was quite pissed off during the first set kasi we had 10 errors,” said Cignal head coach Dexter Clamor after the game.
“During the huddle, I told them that they were the star players in their teams during their collegiate years. It’s not yabang, it’s pride na talented kami lahat, university ang kalaban na mas bata sa atin, dapat hindi kami magpapatalo,” he added.
Noel Kampton tallied 12 points and eight excellent receptions, but it wasn’t enough for the Green Spikers to avoid dropping to a 4-1 record.
Meanwhile, the PGJC Navy Sealions (4-3) kept their semifinal dreams alive after a 25-23, 22-25, 25-20, 25-22 victory over the Savouge Spin Doctors (4-2).
Joeven Dela Vega led the Sealions with 18 points, eight excellent receptions, and five digs, while Marvin Villanueva and Peter Quiel added 15 and 14 points, respectively.
