Deanna Wong grapples with knee injury; comeback expected next year

Choco Mucho Flying Titans’ star setter Deanna Wong will miss the rest of the year as she focuses on fully recovering from a recurring knee injury.

Wong was present but did not suit up during their first game against the Petro Gazz Angels on Saturday, surprising many of her fans.

When asked about the 26-year-old setter’s status, Choco Mucho coaches informed reporters that she is dealing with the same injury she sustained in the previous Premier Volleyball League (PVL) conference.

“‘Yung dating nagiging problema niya. ‘Yung problema niya every time na meron kaming laro. Sa ngayon, medyo mina-manage na lang nang maayos para kapag makabalik, hindi na umulit,” veteran coach Dante Alinsunurin revealed.

According to her physical therapist, Wong is expected to possibly return to the court next year.

“Sinasabi sa ‘min no’ng [therapist] niya, baka January siya makabalik,” Alinsunurin said.

The former UAAP Best Setter has been the Flying Titans’ main playmaker since the team’s inception in 2019. With her absence, the squad will rely on the expertise of Mars Alba and Jem Ferrer, both of whom have Best Setter awards to their names.
