After a well-deserved break following his historic Olympic triumph, double-gold medalist Carlos Yulo is eager to return to training.
The pint-sized Filipino gymnast, who made history as the first Filipino to win two Olympic golds at the Paris Games, took time off to fulfill various commitments and enjoy a holiday respite.
However, Yulo emphasized his determination to stay competitive, stating he doesn’t want to be left behind by his rivals.
“Other gymnasts around the world aren’t resting. I can’t wait to train again and do better next year,” said Yulo in the Philippine Daily Inquirer.
Yulo will begin his campaign at the FIG (International Gymnastics Federation) Apparatus World Cup from Feb. 20 to 23 in Cottbus, Germany.
This will be followed by the 12th Asian Gymnastics Championships in Jecheon, South Korea, on June 5 to 8.
“I want to see what more I can improve on, so these tournaments are important to give me a feel of the competition,” said Yulo.
In October, Yulo will compete in the prestigious FIG Artistic Gymnastics World Championships in Jakarta.
There he will shoot for a third world title after victories in the floor exercise in 2019 Stuttgart, Germany, and vault in 2021 Kitakyushu, Japan.
