Filipina weightlifting icon Hidilyn Diaz-Naranjo and her husband-coach Julius Naranjo experienced the honor of being tattooed by the legendary Apo Whang-Od.
In photos shared by Julius on Instagram, Diaz, the Philippines’ first Olympic gold medalist, proudly displayed her new tattoo.
Julius also received the traditional mambabatok treatment from the 107-year-old Whang-Od, the oldest living practitioner of Kalinga tattooing.
“Last week I had the chance to meet a living legend in @apowhangod, and I was quickly reminded that I was actually with two living legends, one culturally and one through sports (@hidilyndiaz). Both women embody strength & empower beauty through their talents and achievements,” said Julius in his caption.
