Hong Kong Eastern capitalized on a strong start to defeat San Miguel, 71-62, in the EASL Home-And-Away Season 2 on Wednesday night at Southorn Stadium.
Kobe Lam spearheaded Hong Kong’s 28-14 opening run, putting the Beermen in a deficit they struggled to overcome for the remainder of the game.
Christopher McLaughlin contributed 16 points, while Glen Yang added 11 to secure the victory for Hong Kong.
It was San Miguel’s first defeat since Leo Austria’s return as head coach.
Torrent Jones paced the Beermen with 19 points and nine rebounds. June Mar Fajardo scored 19 points as well with six rebounds.
Eastern now has a record of 1-2, while San Miguel has yet to win a game in three outings in the EASL.
Prior to the loss, Austria and San Miguel racked up two straight wins in the PBA Commissioner’s Cup since he took over the coaching reins for the Beermen in lieu of Jorge Gallent.
