The Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings are gearing up for a highly anticipated clash with the San Miguel Beermen as the PBA Commissioner’s Cup resumes on Sunday at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.
Gin Kings assistant coach Richard del Rosario revealed that the team had minimal rest over the holiday season, maintaining focus to prepare for their showdown against their sister team.
“Well, nagpapractice naman kami all throughout the holidays. Nag-break lang kami for (December) 31 at (January) 1, and balik na uli kami sa ensayo,” Del Rosario said in an interview with DWAR Abante Radyo’s Sports Now program.
Gin Kings head coach Tim Cone stated that the team feels less pressure heading into their game against the San Miguel Beermen, thanks to their confidence-boosting 95-92 victory over the Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots in their previous outing.
“It’s hard when you come into the game and be in a ‘must win, must win.’ That puts a lot of pressure on you,” Cone said in a post-game interview after Ginebra’s win over Magnolia on Christmas Day.
“We’re coming to the San Miguel game feeling confident and comfortable with our game; we do that, and we usually perform pretty well against them,” added the 25-time PBA champion coach.
The Gin Kings currently hold a 4-2 win-loss record, while the Beermen are at an even 3-3 in the ongoing PBA Commissioner’s Cup.
