Barangay Ginebra San Miguel Kings’ Justin Brownlee cannot be considered the Greatest of All Time (GOAT) among PBA imports, says former Gilbey’s Gin point guard Willie Generalao.
According to Generalao, several former PBA reinforcements outshine the current Gilas Pilipinas naturalized player in terms of impact and skill.
“Para sa akin, si (Bobby) Ray Parks (Sr.), maybe si Norman Black dahil sa kanyang 100 percent, si Sean Chambers dahil ‘yung hardworking, ‘yung individual attitude,” Generalao said in an interview with DWAR Abante Radyo’s SPORTALAKAN program.
“Maybe Brownlee is (among the better PBA imports), pero (hindi siya ang GOAT PBA import),” added the 1980 PBA Rookie of the Year winner.
Brownlee himself has previously dismissed the “GOAT PBA import” label, acknowledging that many PBA imports, both past and present, are greater than him.
“I cannot label myself as the greatest, and there are so many good imports that came while I was here and way before I came here in the Philippines; I am just looking at those guys as the GOAT,” Brownlee said in a previous interview with Sports Now.
“I just tried not to get too much involved and give respect to the imports that came before, and, without them, probably I would not have accomplished half of any of their accomplishments,” he added.
The 36-year-old Brownlee has guided the Gin Kings to six PBA championships since his debut in 2016 and has earned the PBA Best Import award three times.
His stellar performances for Ginebra also led to his naturalization with Gilas Pilipinas, where he played a key role in securing gold medals at the 2023 Southeast Asian Games and the 2023 Asian Games.
