The Philippines pulled off an upset against higher-ranked Turkmenistan, boosting their chances of qualifying for the AFC Women’s Futsal Cup on Wednesday in Uzbekistan.
Katrina Guillou and Dionesa Tolentin each scored a goal, leading the Pinays to a 2-0 victory over the world No. 38 Turkmens.
This win placed the Philippines, ranked No. 59 globally, at the top of Group C with seven points from two wins and a draw.
The Philippines will face Australia next on Friday. Only the top two teams from each group will advance to the Asian Cup, scheduled from May 7 to 18 in China.
