Rising tennis star Alex Eala relished the opportunity to compete at a high level in the Madrid Open, where she once again faced World No. 2 Iga Swiatek.
In an Instagram post, Eala shared her excitement about playing on the iconic clay court, Pista Manolo Santana.
“What an experience playing in this year’s @mutuamadridopen, especially on Pista Manolo Santana,” she said. “It’s such a privilege to bring out my competitive side and perform at a high level on these iconic courts.”
Eala likened competing against the world’s best to being thrown into a lion’s den, saying that although she lost her rematch against Swiatek, the experience would help her grow.
“Today’s match was a battle, and I’m counting on it not being the last,” she said.
“Sometime ago, my dad told me, ‘If you want to be a lion, you have to live in the den.’ I’ve earned my place in the den—and I like to think I’m a lion in the making.”
