Eala teams up with Gauff for doubles win in Italian Open

Alex Eala made a strong rebound at the Italian Open, teaming up with World No. 3 Coco Gauff for a commanding win in their women’s doubles debut on Saturday.

Eala and Gauff defeated the pair of Alexandra Panova of Russia and Fanny Stollár of Hungary, 6-3, 6-1, to advance to the round of 16.

After a brief 2-2 deadlock in the first set, the new duo found their rhythm and dominated the rest of the match.

The victory comes as a bounce back for the 19-year-old Filipina, who was eliminated by Marta Kostyuk in singles play earlier in the tournament.

Eala and Gauff will next face the winners of the matchup between Italy’s Tyra Grant and Lisa Pigato and the tandem of Irina Khromacheva (Russia) and Anna Danilina (Kazakhstan).
