Three standout alumnae of the De La Salle University (DLSU) Women’s Volleyball Team were recognized for their excellence in both athletics and life beyond the court, receiving the prestigious Lasallian Sports Achievement Award at the 9th One La Salle Night of Excellence held last April 26.
Former Lady Spikers Mika Esperanza, Cyd Demecillo, and Des Cheng were each honored for embodying Lasallian values while excelling in their respective post-volleyball careers.
The award “honors distinguished alumni who have achieved notable success in their respective fields and who embody the values of the De La Salle Brothers and serve as role models.”
Esperanza, UAAP Season 73 Rookie of the Year and a member of the Season 78 championship team, fulfilled her longtime dream of becoming a doctor in 2021.
Demecillo, who helped DLSU clinch its first UAAP women’s beach volleyball title in Season 78 alongside fellow alumna Kim Fajardo, now soars in a different arena as a flight attendant. She also holds three indoor volleyball championship titles under her belt.
Cheng, known for her resilience through injuries, earned Finals MVP honors in Season 79 after powering La Salle to back-to-back indoor volleyball titles.
Despite their varied paths, all three continue to support the Lady Spikers, frequently seen in the stands clad in green and white, cheering for the next generation of DLSU athletes.
Truly, these women continue to live by the spirit of “Once a Lady Spiker, always a Lady Spiker.”
