Hot & Mostly Dry Start To The Week, But Won't Last Long!

TODAY:
We're starting out mostly sunny this morning and tempertures in the low to mid 70s across the region. Today, we'll see lots of sunshine and highs getting into the mid 90s as we warm up a little to start the week. A stray shower can't be ruled out, but most of you will stay dry.

THIS WEEK:
This is going to be a tale of 2 halves as we start out hot and mostly dry through Tuesday with highs in the mid to upper 90s thanks to a ridge. But, that ridge starts to break down midweek, and a front makes it's way into the south by the end of the week, bringing in more clouds, chances for rain, and also cooler temps. We'll see low 90s Wednesday through Friday, then upper 80s on Saturday and Sunday. Stray showers will be in the forecast through Tuesday, with isolated showers Wednesday and Thursday, then scattered Friday through the upcoming weekend. A peak ahead shows a trough settling in by the first of next week, and that will bring us below average temperatures with highs only in the mid 80s!

TROPICS:
There a couple of areas with very low chances for development over the next 7 days. One area is just off the East Coast, and that's not much of a concern. Another area of low pressure just came of the African coast and there's a 20% chance of development over the next 7 days, so we'll be watching that one. But, the big story remains Hurricane Erin. Erin managed to reach Category 5 status yesterday, but has since weakened to a Category 3 storm with max sustained winds of 125 mph. She is expected to strengthen again, but is expected to turn northward, and eventually northeastward, and stay away from the U.S. Erin will however, provide for very dangerous rip currents, and increased wave action along the East Coast.
