Javi Gomez de Liaño signs 3-year contract with Magnolia Hotshots

Former UP standout Javi Gomez de Liaño has signed a three-year contract with the Magnolia Chicken Timplados Hotshots.

The Magnolia Hotshots News Facebook page confirmed the deal, posting a photo of Gomez de Liaño smiling as he shook hands with team manager Alvin Patrimonio.

“Javi Gomez de Liaño’s home for the next 3 years 🇵🇭💙 Magnolia inks Javi to a three-year deal ✍🏻,” the post read.

Magnolia’s official Facebook page confirmed the signing with a video post.

The 6-foot-4 swingman is rejoining the PBA after the league approved a trade that sent him from Terrafirma to Magnolia in exchange for Jerrick Ahanmisi and a 2025 second-round draft pick.

Originally drafted eighth overall by Barangay Ginebra in 2022 following his stint with the Ibaraki Robots in Japan’s B.League, Gomez de Liaño was quickly shipped to Terrafirma in a deal for Jeremiah Gray.

He eventually broke out with the Dyip in the 2023–24 season, averaging 16.4 points, 5.7 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.3 steals before moving to the Korean Basketball League with Anyang Jung Kwan Jang, where he put up 8.4 points per game.

His arrival strengthens the Hotshots’ wing rotation under new head coach LA Tenorio, especially after William Navarro’s move to Busan KCC Egis in the KBL.

Meanwhile, Ahanmisi departs Magnolia after five seasons, with Terrafirma expected to give him a bigger role in its backcourt rotation.
