UST hosts Kobe Shinwa for tune-up ahead of PVL Finals

The University of Santo Tomas (UST) Golden Tigresses, deep in their preparations for UAAP Season 88, hosted visiting Kobe Shinwa University in a tune-up match Saturday night at the Quadricentennial Pavilion.

The UST Women’s and Girls’ Volleyball Team Facebook page shared a photo of the UST women’s squad under returning head coach Cesael “Shaq” Delos Santos posing with Kobe Shinwa University, led by head coach Kiyokazu Yamamoto, after their tune-up game.

“Thank you for visiting the Tigers’ lair, Kobe Shinwa University! Great game! 🇵🇭 x 🇯🇵 🐯 #GoUSTe,” the post read, though no game result was disclosed.

Kobe Shinwa is set to face the PLDT High Speed Hitters in the one-game championship of the PVL Invitational Conference tonight at 6:30 p.m. at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

The High Speed Hitters swept the Japanese side in the preliminaries, 25-20, 25-22, 25-23. But instead of faltering, Kobe Shinwa bounced back with three straight wins, highlighted by a dramatic reverse sweep over Chery Tiggo on Friday that sealed its spot in the finals.

The guest team now has a chance at redemption—and at making history with a PVL title.
