Barangay Ginebra legend and former PBA MVP Jayjay Helterbrand is once again proving that his generosity matches his basketball legacy.
Helterbrand is raising funds for former Terrafirma player Roider Cabrera by selling signed Upper Deck collector cards, with all proceeds going toward Cabrera’s ongoing medical expenses. The former Adamson standout suffered a cardiac arrest in November 2021 and later underwent angioplasty surgery.
In a post shared via the PBA Motoclub Facebook page, Helterbrand called on fans and collectors to support the cause.
“UPPER DECK CARDS!

”
The signed cards are available at the PBA Motoclub Flagship Store on the 3rd Floor of 226 Wilson St., Greenhills, San Juan City. The store is open Monday to Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Helterbrand’s initiative is the latest in a series of efforts to aid Cabrera, whose family continues to face steep medical costs—reportedly around P20,000 per week for therapy and medication.
Earlier this year, members of the PBA Motoclub, which includes fellow former stars Rico Maierhofer and Marc Pingris, visited Cabrera and his family to personally check on his condition.
Cabrera’s sister, Rachel, shared that while Terrafirma extended his contract for a year after the incident, the team eventually stopped its support, citing the lack of health insurance coverage.
Rachel also confirmed that the PBA extended P100,000 in financial aid at the time of his hospitalization, but no additional assistance followed.
The Motoclub members used the visit to call attention to the urgent need for player insurance across all PBA teams.
“’Yan ‘yung dapat may insurance ‘yung player,” Maierhofer said in their vlog.
“Dapat masilip ‘to ng PBA na dapat lahat ng team mayroon,” Pingris added.
“Si Roider, buong medication niya dapat insured. Kasi kaya nga siya na-injured dahil playing for the team eh,” Maierhofer stressed.
During the visit, the PBA Motoclub handed over P100,000 to help with Cabrera’s medical costs—money raised through their YouTube channel.

The call to help continues, as does the push for institutional change to ensure that future PBA players won’t be left behind in times of medical crisis.
