Midday Interview: New CEO of Girls Inc. Columbus and Phenix City-Russell talks role

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — Danita Gibson Lloyd of Girls Inc. Columbus and Phenix City-Russell dropped by WRBL News 3 to discuss her history in the program and the benefits it brings for young girls.

Gibson Lloyd is the new CEO of the organization, who was once a Girl's Club member. She credits her success to being part of the organization that helped her transition into adulthood, making it possible for her to become the CEO.

Before she became CEO she was the Chief Operating Officer and, for a period of time, was the interim CEO and COO.

"I know all aspects of Girls Inc, having being a girl in the program, having being someone that's front-facing with all our community daughters that we serve and now someone who is tasked to lead this amazing organization," she said.

In her new role, she is looking to continue serving girls from ages 5 to 18 throughout Columbus and Phenix City, helping out with homework, nutrition, physical activity, and emotional development.

The organization is holding its only and largest fundraiser of the year on Thursday, which will allow the girls to cheer, dance, and be awarded scholarships, while honoring three other organizations that have donated to Girls Inc.
