PHENIX CITY, Ala. (WRBL) — The Phenix City Board of Education has formally accepted the retirement of Superintendent Dr. Janet Sherrod, effective Dec. 31, 2025.
In a news release, The Phenix City Board of Education says the retirement was accepted at the August Board meeting.
A statement from Dr. Sherrod was also in the release.
"Serving Phenix City Schools has been the honor of my career. From the beginning, my focus has always been on students and ensuring they have every opportunity to succeed. The progress we've made is a testament to the hard work of our principals, teachers, staff, families and scholars. I am proud of what we have accomplished together and confident that the systems we built will continue to move this district forward."
Phenix City School officials say they will begin the search for a new superintendent within the coming months.
