COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL)- This afternoon, we have been tracking a few heavy downpours. These scattered storms will begin to fizzle out later tonight.
Thursday: Temperatures will remain warm for Thursday afternoon, with readings sitting in the lower 90s. After a clear start, another round of isolated storms is expected tomorrow afternoon.
Weekend: A front is set to enter this weekend, which means more rain and cooler temperatures. More widespread storms will be possible on Friday and will continue through Sunday. Afternoon temperatures will drop into the mid-80s on Saturday.
Next Week: Unfortunately, the cooler weather won't last too long. Lower 90s will return next week as we welcome clear skies again. A second front enters in the middle of next week. Afternoon temperatures are expected to drop into the 70s by Wednesday, giving us a taste of fall.
Tropics: Erin remains a large Category 2 hurricane this afternoon, with wind gusts up to 130 mph. Tropical storm warnings are in place from North Carolina up to Massachusetts. While Erin is not expected to make landfall, the large wind field is impacting coastal communities. Over the next few days, Erin will make a northeast turn back out to sea and weaken further.

We are monitoring two other areas in the Atlantic behind Erin. Area #1 is currently near the Leeward Islands. It has a 60% chance of development over the next week. The front pushing Erin out to sea is expected to keep this system in the Atlantic as well. Area #2 is still in the eastern Atlantic and has a 40% chance of development. Much remains uncertain with this system.
