ATLANTA, Ga. (WRBL) - The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets just recorded one of the biggest wins in recent memory. Unranked Tech upset the formerly #12 Clemson Tigers 24-21, thanks to a school-record tying 55 yard field goal by kicker Aidan Birr. The Yellow Jackets now improve to 3-0 this season through the toughest part of their 2025 schedule. Along with Clemson, Tech has also taken down Head Coach Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes and Garner-Webb.
WRBL's Rex Castillo caught up with the Georgia Tech beat writer for the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, Chad Bishop, about this incredible upset win over the Tigers. It was an emotional victory for head coach Brent Key, who has been leading the Yellow Jackets since 2020. Bishop described this team's success to "slow cooked barbeque". Georgia Tech invested in players that fit their toughness culture and was patient with their success. Coach Key, who was emotional in the postgame press conference, said this win over Clemson was 3 years in the making.
The toughness of this team can be embodied in quarterback Haynes King. The redshirt senior signal caller passed for 211 yards and was effective on the ground. King rushed for 103 yards and had a rushing touchdown.
Be sure to check out Chad Bishop's work with the AJC and follow him on social media. The Yellow Jackets next game will be back at Bobby Dodd stadium this Saturday against Temple.
