LANETT, Ala. (WRBL) - Friday night football could soon look a whole lot brighter in Chambers County. Springwood High School has been named one of just 25 finalists nationwide in T-Mobile's Friday Night 5G Lights competition, putting them in the running for the ultimate grand prize – a $1 million stadium transformation.
Springwood High School is one of just 25 schools across the entire country to make the finals, and while competitors stretch coast to coast, this is our chance to bring the prize money home to East Alabama and West Georgia. Every daily vote helps invest in our kids, our community, and the future of Friday nights under the lights in Lanett
The Wildcats have already tasted victory this season, winning both a $5,000 "5K Friday" award and a $25,000 grant through the program. Those early wins are already helping to improve safety, equipment, and the fan experience at Bennett Stadium. But now, the school is playing for the biggest prize of all.
"There is no experience in the world like Friday Nights at Springwood School in Bennett Stadium," said Head of School Allyson Matthews. "Thank you, T-Mobile, for recognizing our passion and for giving the Wildcats the opportunity to win a $1 million stadium makeover. Let's GO BIG RED!!!!!"
What's at Stake
If Springwood secures the national title, the Wildcats will receive:
• A $1 million field upgrade
• A renovated GronkFitness weight room
• A consultation with stadium-experience experts
• An all-expenses-paid trip to the SEC Championship Game for 16 representatives
• A tailgate party in 2026 to celebrate the grand reveal
It's an opportunity school leaders say could change the game for generations of student-athletes and fans in Chambers County.
A Community Effort
Springwood's recognition is about more than football. It's about community pride. Parents, alumni, local businesses, and students have already rallied together by sharing posts, pictures, and videos showcasing the Wildcats' spirit.
That momentum will be key, because winning the $1 million grand prize depends entirely on daily community voting.
