COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) — An 18-year tradition is ready to rev up in Columbus called "Bikes off Broadway," an event that brings together motorcyclists, families, and local businesses for fun while promoting safety.
Joey Rucker and Benny Downs with the Columbus Association of Motorcyclists dropped by WRBL News 3 on Tuesday to speak to anchor Teresa Whitaker about the upcoming event.
"We're a 10-member club and we contribute to each of the member club has their own nonprofit. So we contribute to those," said Rucker, who explained what the Columbus Association of Motorcyclists is all about. "We also participate, we don't run it but participate in Toys for Tots.
He also went into detail on the event switching locations this year and explained why the sudden change.
"City ordinance prevented us from keeping the streets closed for more than five hours per day. So we moved down to Woodruff, which is exempt... all of Woodruff Park and Dillingham Street," Rucker explained.
The event is set to take place on Friday, Sept. 12, from 4 p.m. to 11 p.m. and Saturday, Sept 13, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. with a ride out at 1 p.m. It will take place at Woodruff Park, located at 1000 Bay Avenue, Columbus, Georgia.
Admission is free to the public.
