More shrimp recalled for possible radioactive contamination, ADPH says

ALABAMA (WRBL) — Officials with the Alabama Department of Public Health announced on Friday that it was made aware of more reports about imported goods possibly being contaminated, prompting a recall.

ADPH says imported goods were contaminated with radioactive cesium-137, specifically shrimp.

Officials with ADPH expressed on Friday that they are tracking the incident to "minimize any impacts to public health, the economy, and the environment."

There are currently no products that have tested positive for radiation that have entered the United States marketplace or food supply chain.

ADPH also says that the level of contamination detected in detained shipments would not pose an acute health hazard to the public.
