Opelika police searching for man accused of shooting and injuring two in altercation

OPELIKA, Ala. – (WRBL) - The Opelika Police Department is asking for the public's help in locating Zyreon Zykeith James, who is wanted on an outstanding warrant for first-degree assault.

The charge stems from an altercation on Aug. 30, 2025, when officers responded around 11:54 p.m. to the 3500 block of Dale Avenue for reports of an assault with injuries.

When police arrived, they found a 16-year-old juvenile and 20-year-old Zyreon James suffering from gunshot wounds. Both were transported to Piedmont Columbus Regional Medical Center in Columbus, Georgia. The juvenile was later transferred to Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta for further treatment. Both individuals have since been treated and released.

Investigators say the shooting happened during an altercation involving multiple people, and officers later identified James as the person who shot the 16-year-old.
