Pleasant start, sunny skies, and finally a chance of rain in the extended forecast

COLUMBUS, Ga. (WRBL) -- Good Wednesday morning! We're kicking off the day a bit warmer than we've seen earlier this week, with temperatures starting out in the mid to upper 60s. A few clouds are drifting through the area, but overall it's a pleasant beginning to the day.

Expect plenty of sunshine through the morning hours, though clouds will begin to build around midday and continue increasing into the late afternoon and early evening. That's thanks to a weak shortwave of energy brushing past northern Alabama and Georgia. While north Georgia may see a few showers or isolated storms, we'll likely just notice a thickening cloud cover.

Tonight looks mostly clear and quiet, with overnight lows dipping back into the mid to upper 60s—comfortable sleeping weather.

As we look toward the rest of the week, the dry trend continues. We'll see mostly sunny skies and a warming pattern, with afternoon highs climbing into the low 90s by the weekend.

Our next best chance for rain—and possibly a few thunderstorms—arrives early next week as another upper-level disturbance swings through the region Monday into Tuesday.
