Police: Opelika man armed with shotgun dragged and locked woman in bedroom

OPELIKA, Ala. - (WRBL) - A 21-year-old Lee County man is facing multiple charges after authorities say he assaulted his girlfriend then held her against her will in a locked bedroom while he had a loaded shotgun.

According to court records, Peyton John Collins was arrested on September 14, 2025, after Opelika authorities responded to a domestic violence call along Ballfields Loop.

A criminal complaint filed in Lee County District Court accuses Collins of Domestic Violence, Third-Degree Harassment, alleging he shoved, and grabbed the victim before dragging her to a bedroom and locking her in.

A separate complaint charges Collins with Unlawful Imprisonment, First Degree, claiming he restrained her inside a bedroom while armed with a loaded shotgun, placing her at risk of serious injury.

Investigators also filed a weapons-related charge after discovering Collins in possession of a sawed-off shotgun with a barrel shorter than 18 inches, which is prohibited under Alabama law.

Collins was booked into the Lee County Jail around 4:45 a.m. on Sept. 14. Jail records show he was issued bonds.
