Tim Cone lauds Scottie Thompson for a ‘legendary’ triple-double performance

Barangay Ginebra San Miguel head coach Tim Cone hailed Scottie Thompson’s historic showing in Game 4 of the PBA Season 50 Philippine Cup semifinals on Sunday night at the SM Mall of Asia Arena in Pasay City.

Thompson delivered a career performance, erupting for 35 points to go with 11 rebounds and 11 assists as the Gin Kings evened their series with the San Miguel Beermen with a 105-91 Game 4 win.

“Let me just say, it was a legendary performance,” Cone said in a post-game presser.

According to PBA chief statistician Fidel Mangonon III, Thompson became the first player in 36 years to record at least 30 points, 10 rebounds, and 10 assists in a single game.

The last player to achieve the feat was Ronnie Magsanoc, who posted 32 points, 13 rebounds, and 18 assists for Shell against Pepsi during the 1990 All-Filipino Conference.

“I think we’re gonna remember this one for a long time,” Cone said. “I think he came out and he was more aggressive tonight, he was looking for things.”

“And I think the more he became a threat, the more he was able to open up lanes for him to make passes as well,” the Gilas Pilipinas mentor added. (AC)
