Fresh off his successful BKB World Super Welterweight title defense in Manchester, Filipino fighter Rolando “Dy Incredible” Dy took time to honor former boxing world champion Paulie Malignaggi following their bare-knuckle showdown.
Dy shared a photo with Malignaggi on social media and expressed deep respect for the American boxing veteran, who reportedly hinted that the bout could be the final fight of his career.\
“I respect this legend,” Dy wrote.
“He was a two-time world champion. He was an Italian warrior, who was straight forward with his opinions.”
The Filipino champion revealed that Malignaggi personally told him the fight might be his last appearance inside the ring, making the moment even more meaningful for Dy.
“He told me that might be his last fight, and I am happy to share the ring with him,” Dy added.
Malignaggi, known throughout his boxing and broadcasting career for his outspoken takes and controversial opinions, received praise from Dy beyond his accomplishments inside the ring.
“Paul Malignaggi is a good person with controversial opinions. He is an analyst and sports commentator. That’s his job, but as a human being, he is a good human being,” Dy said.
“He is my friend.”
Dy ended his heartfelt message by thanking Malignaggi and wishing the former two-division boxing champion well in retirement.
“Happy retirement champ. Pleasure working with you.”
The tribute came shortly after Dy successfully defended his BKB World Super Welterweight Championship in Manchester, further cementing his status as one of the top Filipino names in global bare-knuckle fighting. (Rogelio Nicolas III)
