Alexandra Eala’s impressive campaign at the 2026 Berlin Open came to an end after she bowed to Czech standout Linda Noskova in the semifinals on Saturday (Sunday in the Philippines) at the Steffi Graf Stadion.
Noskova secured a 6-2, 6-4 victory in a match that was postponed for several hours due to heavy rain to advance to the championship match, where she will face Jessica Pegula.
The Czech player took control early, breaking Eala in the opening game and maintaining the momentum throughout the first set. Another service break helped Noskova claim the set, 6-2, while her powerful serve proved difficult to handle as she finished with eight aces.
Eala put up a stronger fight in the second set, keeping pace with Noskova through the first eight games. However, the Czech broke serve at 4-4 to move ahead, 5-4, before serving out the match to complete the straight-sets victory.
The loss halted a remarkable week for the No. 35 ranked. Filipina wildcard, who produced some of the tournament’s biggest surprises.
Eala defeated world No. 2 Elena Rybakina in the Round of 16 before eliminating former world No. 3 Elina Svitolina in the quarterfinals to reach the last four.
Noskova’s efficiency on serve played a key role in the outcome. She won 27 of her 33 first-serve points for an 81.8-percent success rate, while Eala captured 13 of 25 first-serve points, or 52 percent.
Despite the defeat, Eala’s semifinal appearance marked another significant achievement in her growing career as she continued to make her mark on the WTA Tour ahead of the grass-court season’s major events.
