Malick Diouf and Elizabeth Means officially completed their transition to Philippine citizenship after receiving their Philippine passports on Wednesday, clearing another step toward representing the country in international 3×3 basketball competitions.
The Samahang Basketbol ng Pilipinas (SBP) announced the development through photos showing both athletes taking their oath of allegiance at the House of Representatives before proceeding to the Department of Foreign Affairs’ Office of Consular Affairs, where they secured their passports.
Diouf and Means became Filipino citizens after their respective naturalization measures lapsed into law on May 18 without the signature of President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr., in accordance with the Constitution.
Diouf was granted citizenship under Republic Act No. 12318, while Means was naturalized through Republic Act No. 12319.
Their acquisition of Philippine passports now makes them eligible to move forward with the requirements needed to represent Gilas Pilipinas 3×3 in international tournaments, subject to FIBA eligibility rules. (AC)
