Kenneth Tuffin drills timely free throws as Phoenix survives Meralco

Kenneth Tuffin knocked down his free throws when it mattered the most as Phoenix Fuel Masters pulled off a 98-97 triumph against Meralco Bolts in the PBA Season 50 Governors’ Cup on Wednesday night at the Smart Araneta Coliseum.

After splitting during his first four trips to the charity stripe, the former Far Eastern University Tamaraws forward converted two free throws with 13 seconds left to give the Fuel Masters a 98-97 upper hand.

Tuffin finished the match with 17 points, including three triples in the opening quarter, to go with seven rebounds to be named Player of the Game as the Fuel Masters moved up to a 2-0 record.

Robert Johnson II top-scored for the Fuel Masters with 26 points, Ricci Rivero contributed 20 markers off the bench, and Jason Perkins chipped in 13 markers in the win.

CJ Cansino paced the Bolts with 18 points, Allein Maliksi added 16 markers, while Brandon Bates, Clifford Hodge, and Raymond Almazan had 14, 13, and 10 points, respectively.

The Bolts were forced to play all-Filipino in their conference debut with their reinforcement Jordon Varnado unavailable due to an injury. (AC)
