Alexandra Eala has already guaranteed the biggest payday of her professional career after her stunning victory over world No. 3 Iga Świątek propelled her into the fourth round of Wimbledon.
By defeating the five-time Grand Slam champion, 7-6(9), 6-2, Eala secured a place in the Round of 16, a result that comes with prize money of £300,000, or more than P24 million.
Eala’s run has been one of the biggest stories of this year’s Wimbledon Championships. She opened her campaign with a straight-sets win over Mexico’s Renata Zarazua before rallying past Australia’s Maya Joint in the second round.
Her biggest statement came in the third round, where she outplayed Świątek to reach the last 16 for the first time in her career.
The victory also marked another milestone after Eala previously stunned the Polish star at the 2025 Miami Open before Świątek leveled their head-to-head record with a win at the 2025 Madrid Open.
In addition to her singles success, Eala also competed in the women’s doubles with Czech partner Nikola Bartunkova. The pair won the opening set of their first-round match but eventually bowed to Jelena Ostapenko of Latvia and American Sofia Kenin, 6-3, 3-6, 1-6. (AC)
