UNIVERSITY of Perpetual Help Lady Altas finally broke into the win column in the 2026 V-League Collegiate Challenge after defeating San Beda University Lady Red Spikers, 25-22, 28-26, 21-25, 25-21, on Saturday at Gameville Central Park in Mandaluyong City.
The Lady Altas improved to 1-1 in the preliminary round after surviving a determined fourth-set fightback by the Lady Red Spikers.
Perpetual appeared headed for a comfortable finish after taking a 2-1 lead, but San Beda stayed within striking distance in the fourth set before the Lady Altas regained control in the closing points.
Jem Menor was repeatedly targeted by the San Beda defense late in the match, but Camille Bustamante delivered the decisive attack to put the game away after nearly two hours.
Menor still led Perpetual with 16 points, all coming from attacks, while Cyrille Almeñiana had a 17-point performance and six digs.
Perpetual head coach Sandy Rieta said the team still has plenty to improve on despite securing its first victory.
“Actually, ang pinaka-adjustment ko lang is iyung rotation ng players — naghahanap pa talaga ako ng tamang tao sa loob. Marami pa ring (aayusin). Salamat at nakuha iyung panalo, pero pakiramdam as a coach, talo pa rin kasi marami pa ring errors,” Rieta said.
San Beda, meanwhile, dropped to 0-2 after another competitive outing. Janelle Bachar paced the Lady Red Spikers with 15 points. (Adrian Co)
