The Vice Mayor condemned shooters who were alleged members of the New People's Army (NPA) disguised in military uniforms.
He said that the encounter between the Presidential Security Group (PSG) and the New People's Army in Arakan proves that the latter is not true to peace talks that the National Democratic Front of the Philippines and the government is pushing through.
The NPA only showed how opportunistic of a group they are. Their real goal is to spread violence, engage in killings, and oppression of the poor whom they've used for a very long time now as their excuse to continue their relentless abuses.
While the government is working on with the planned peace talks and is also busy fighting for peace and order in Marawi City against terrorists, Pulong Duterte said that the NPA is also occupied in attacking the Philippine government behind its back.
Moreover, he concluded that due to their actions, the NPA no longer has a political stand, the NDF is has no longer control of them and that the NPA are real traitors of this country.
Asking why the NPA keeps on sabotaging the peace talks, Pulong gave a few possible reasons. If peace talks pushes through, of course, there'll be peace agreements, the livelihood source for the NPA that is worth millions they take from contractors, mining companies, plantation owners and many other sources.

On Wednesday, a PSG convoy consisting of two vehicles was attacked by rebels affiliated to a communist group as they passed through a phony checkpoint set up by alleged NPA rebels disguised in insignia of the 3rd Infantry Batallion in Arakan, North Cotabato.
The convoy was from Davao City going to Bukidnon when they reached a checkpoint in the stretch of Barangay Katipunan's highway.
According to Supt. Romeo Galgo, Jr., spokesman of the Police Regional Office-12, the Presidential Security Group convoy was led by Sgt. Ferbello Galleno. Instead of stopping on the checkpoint, both drivers of the vehicles drove through the checkpoint even as the rebels were firing shots at them - five wounded and a militiaman killed.
However, the Palace released a statement that only four members of the PSG were injured.
"The injured PSG personnel are now receiving treatment in the nearest hospital and we have been extending all necessary assistance to the wounded," Presidential Spokesman Ernesto Abella said.
Meanwhile, barangay officials told reporters that the NPA's were originally planning to rob passengers who will pass the checkpoint.
Ben Pajia, a local member of the Citizens Armed Forces Geographical Unit, was reportedly shot dead by the rebels. He approached the location of the echoing gunshots from the scene.
Rebels retreated to the mountains of Bukidnon and Davao del Sur.
