The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) will look into the demolition of Casa Ordoveza, the second oldest house in the Philippines.

The NCCA aims to find out why Casa Ordoveza, a nearly-500-year-old house in Majayjay, Laguna, was permitted despite the local government's mandate to protect its heritage sites.

According to Majayjay residents, the rights to the wood and stone of Casa Ordoveza were sold to a heritage resort in Bataan for reconstruction.

The heritage resort, unnamed in our resource of the news, reportedly reconstructs old houses bought from various parts of the country.

The Philippine Tatler, in a 2015 article, reported that Casa Ordoveza was constructed in the 17th century.

It was the ancestral home of clan patriarch Lorenzo Pangutangan, whose last name was hispanized to Ordoveza.

The owner of Casa Ordoveza has not released a statement on its demolition as of the report's airing.

If Casa Ordoveza is the second oldest house in the Philippines, the 1730 Jesuit House is a historical treasure tucked away in the middle of Historic Cebu City. It is located on Zulueta Street near the Heritage of Cebu Monument and the Yap-Sandiego Museum. For years, the Jesuit House was not available to the public. The Sy Family had used the premises as a warehouse until Jaime Sy decided to develop the Jesuit House as a museum. The rooms have been uncovered, galleries, and exhibits displayed revealing one of the most exciting historical museums in the Philippines.

Restoration of the house is ongoing; visitors may make an appointment to visit the Jesuit House.
