The Philippines had been conquered by foreign countries many years ago and one of which is Japan. Many Filipinos suffered in their hands and there were numerous killings and bombings. However, their reign did not last when the Americans came to the scene. The Japanese soldiers were finally defeated, but there were still traces of them around the country where they also buried the famous, “Yamashita Treasure.”
Japan had collected many valuable items across Asia during the World War II. Legend says that the Japanese had difficult time transporting all the things back to their country. Later, they thought that the Philippines would be a perfect spot to hide their treasures.
The Japanese had originally planned to transport their pricey items from the waters of Philippines to their homeland. Sadly for them, American soldiers destroyed their ships. Moreover, they were urged to create a strategy so no one would benefit from the treasures aside from them.

General Tomoyuki Yamashita was assigned to take care of the matter. He planned the digging of tunnels and finding of caves wherein the treasures would be hidden. Japanese soldiers and prisoners were forced to dig tunnels and hide the items.
Unfortunately, after the treasure was hidden, its entrances were bombed to seal them shut. It left the men inside stuck and eventually they died from the lack of air, water, and food. It was also done to protect the location of the treasure.
Years after the Japanese forces retreated, a Filipino treasure hunter started searching for the so-called, Yamashita Treasure.

Rogelio Roxas successfully located the place where the treasure was buried. Through his team’s effort, they were able to find a secret chamber in Baguio City. There they found bayonets, samurai swords, radios, and skeletons of what are believed to be Japanese soldiers. A 24-carat golden Buddha which is 3-foot high is also seen inside.
Roxas came across a box containing 24 gold bars. The treasure hunter planned to trade the items for cash so they could dig the remaining treasure. Much to his dismay, someone meddled with his plans. It was none other than former President Ferdinand Marcos.
The dictator had Roxas taken, allegedly tortured, and jailed. All the treasures went straight to Marcos.
The treasure hunter died 19 years after he was released from prison. However, it did not stop his family to fight for what was there and also for justice. In 1996 they triumphed in a lawsuit filed against the former president.
For over 50 years many treasure hunters went to the Philippines in hopes of finding the Yamashita treasure. Not long ago, a local citizen said they found the treasure which was bounded by bombs. See the video below:
