Even before a ‘community quarantine’ was declared for the National Capital Region on the evening of March 12, the government had cautioned the public against taking overcrowded public transportation to prevent the spread of COVID-19 in various parts of the country, particularly in Metro Manila.
Authorities had already required the management of the Light Rail Transit (LRT), the Metro Rail Transit (MRT), and bus companies to take the necessary steps to keep their trips virus-free. Among those being closely monitored are passenger terminals that can easily turn into breeding grounds for the deadly virus. Furthermore, the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) is enforcing a crackdown on overcrowded passenger buses plying the streets of Metro Manila. And starting noontime today, March 13, Grab Philippines is suspending its GrabShare service in Metro Manila and Cebu to comply with the guidelines for social distancing.
While they're waiting for a directive from the technical working group of the Department of Transportation (DOTr), George Royeca, the company's chief transport advocate, is urging Angkas riders to avoid plying the streets and just stay home until the health crisis subsides.
If they will insist on hitting the road, he advised the Angkas riders to adopt measures ensuring the health and safety of its riders and passengers.
George Royeca has sent us the ‘Kontra Korona’ preventive measures being undertaken by the ride-hailing platform. Check them out below:
The following guidelines are given for riders who are on duty:
If you’re a regular Angkas rider, do you have any other suggestions?
