Some bad news for all the Fast and Furious fans looking forward to the film franchise’s next installment: The release of F9, which was originally scheduled for late May 2020, has been pushed back by almost a year due to the spread of COVID-19.
The movie’s new release date is April 2021, with a North American release set for April 2 that year. According to a post released on the franchise’s official Facebook page, the decision to delay the film’s release was made with the safety of its fans in mind. Look:

“To our family of Fast fans everywhere, we feel all the love and the anticipation you have for the next chapter in our saga. That’s why it’s especially tough to let you know that we have to move the release date of the film. It’s become clear that it won’t be possible for all of our fans around the world to see the film this May,” the post reads.
“We are moving the global release date to April 2021, with North America opening on April 2. While we know there is disappointment in having to wait a little while longer, this move is made with the safety of everyone as our foremost consideration,” it adds.
That’s tough luck for all of the people excited to see the next chapter in the Fast saga—especially those of us eager to see how in the world Han is still alive. He was seen driving the all-new Toyota Supra in the film’s trailer, so we know for sure he isn’t returning in a flashback role.
