A Milan-based Filipina fashion design student from Iloilo has taken to socmed to impart the hard lesson learned by Italy amid covid-19 virus crisis.

In a Facebook post, Mickaella Jorgia Bergantino opened with the usual salutation, just like when writing a letter before social media was a fad, “Dear Family and Friends in the Philippines,”
Bergantino stressed to fellow Filipinos in the Philippines the importance of learning from the mistakes of the Italian experience in response to covid-19, “Don’t make the same mistakes like we did here in Italy.”
Bergantino went on to emphasize to listen to the government. “Being in Lockdown means you have to STAY AT HOME and AVOID at all costs going out.”
“No school or work doesn’t mean a holiday or you can go out with friends or meet other people,” Bergatino wrote.
Bergantino remarked that the government and health officials agreed on it for a purpose. “It has been proposed by the government and health officials for a purpose!”
The Italians didn’t and they are now regretting it. “We have been there. We didn’t listen. We continued to go out and meet people even though we were told not to. We underestimated the situation.”
Bergantino asked Filipinos to take stock what the Italians are in now for their stubbornness. “And look where we are right now. 10k plus of infected and we are Forced to stay at home.”
Bergantino reiterated what Filipinos need to do to avoid repeating the mistakes of the Italians, including Filipino expats.
“Do not do the same mistakes like we did.
Stay at home while you are not being forced.
Do your job as a citizen.
Your role in obedience will lead a big impact to the Society.”
Bergantino told Filipinos to drop everything – whatever plans they have right now – life and health is important. “It doesn’t matter if your plans are or were cancelled. Your life and health is more important than that.”
Bergantino ended the FB post with a reassuring message to fellow Filipinos back home.
“Sending love and prayers to all of you!
This will end soon!
Stay strong! ”
