Manila Masters postponed until August, other Fiba 3x3 events also moved

THE Manila Masters of the 2020 Fiba 3x3 World Tour has been moved from May to August due to the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Fiba and private promoter Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas announced the news, with the 3x3 club competition, originally set May 2 to 3, moved to Aug. 15-16.

The Manila Masters will be held at SM Megamall Fashion Hall in Mandaluyong, will host top Filipino ballclubs as well as reigning Fiba 3x3 World Tour champion Novi Sad of Serbia and world No. 6 Sakiai Gulbele of Lithuania.

It wasn't the only event suspended by the international governing body for basketball.

Scheduling changes were also enforced for the 2020 Fiba 3x3 Olympic Qualifying Tournament, set originally from March 18 to 22 in Bangalore, India to tentatively in August.

The 2020 Fiba 3x3 Asia Cup in Changsha, China, originally set May 13 to 17 has been moved to September 9-13. The 2020 Fiba 3x3 Under-17 Asia Cup in Cyberjaya, Malaysia, originally scheduled June 4 to 7 has been moved to Oct. 8-11.

The local promoter has also pushed back the opening of its 2020 Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 season, with the six-leg President's Cup about to tip off on March 29.

Twelve teams will join the joust, nine of which coming from clubs in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League.

"As Filipinos, the health and safety of our players, officials, staff, and, most importantly, our fans are the most important thing to us," said league owner Ronald Mascarinas.
