Mark Barroca impressed with Gilas Pilipinas: ‘Maganda ‘yung sistema nila’

Mark Barroca liked what he saw with the current national team player pool after the Magnolia Hotshots clashed with Gilas in a tune-up game on Friday.

Gilas beat the Hotshots, 93-77, without Kai Sotto, Scottie Thompson, Justin Brownlee, and Jordan Clarkson.

Barroca, who played for Gilas in the 2019 edition of the World Cup, said that the current set of players have plenty of shooters and are playing at a fast pace.

“Maganda ‘yung takbuhan nila kasi maraming shooters, tapos kundisyon pa lahat. Mas bata rin sila, so ‘yung hunger nandun,” the Magnolia guard said in a report from Spin.ph.

The veteran guard credited the system of the Gilas coaching staff for implementing a fast-paced offense.

“Maganda ‘yung sistema nila coach, ‘yung pace nila nandoon. Sobrang bilis nila,” Barroca added. “At ‘yun naman kailangan natin, kasi ‘yun talaga ang chance natin sa international, e. Kaya dapat mabilis talaga ‘yung pace natin at may pressure tayo.”

Barroca expects that the national team will get better when Sotto and Clarkson join the squad. (MJD)
