Promoters to hold talks in Las Vegas for Tapales-Inoue showdown

The lead promoters of super bantamweight champions Marlon Tapales and Naoya Inoue are set to hold talks in Las Vegas next week in an effort to arrange a lucrative title unification bout between the two in December.

Sean Gibbons of MP Promotions will be representing the WBA/IBF champion Tapales, while Akihiko Honda of Teiken Promotions will be negotiating for WBC/WBO king Inoue, according to the Daily Tribune.

Also expected to join the negotiation is Top Rank’s Bob Arum, who is the Japanese’s representative in the US.

They are looking at the 55,000-seat Tokyo Dome as a possible venue for the unification tiff.

Tapales won the WBA and IBF titles last April via a split decision over Uzbekistan’s Murodjon Akhmadaliev. Inoue, on the other hand, secured the WBC and WBO titles last month by knocking out Stephen Fulton.

Tapales is already preparing for the fight and is planning to fly to the US for a more intensive training camp.
