UST repeats win against Perpetual Help, secures 3rd place in Shakey’s Super League

The University of Santo Tomas Golden Tigresses emerged victorious against the University of Perpetual Help System-Delta Lady Altas, with scores of 25-20, 25-21, 17-25, and 25-13, securing the bronze medal in the Shakey’s Super League on Saturday afternoon at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

Angeline Poyos led the scoring with 26 points, supported by Regine Jurado with 19 points and Xyza Gula contributing 13 points for the Golden Tigresses. They secured a 2-0 sweep in the best-of-three battle-for-third-place series.

Unable to seal the victory in the third set, the Golden Tigresses found themselves in a closely contested match against the Lady Altas in the fourth frame. The latter maintained a narrow 11-10 lead.

However, the Golden Tigresses went on the offensive, executing a 14-3 scoring surge led by Jurado and Gula, ultimately overpowering the Lady Altas and securing the win.

“Ito ang una naming podium finish in three years,” said UST head coach Emilio “KungFu” Reyes. “Maganda rin at nabigyan ng opportunity ang mga players namin because we are a very young team.”

Current NCAA MVP Mary Rhose Dapol spearheaded the Lady Altas’ effort with 25 points, while Razel Aldea and Shaila Omipon contributed nine points each.
