Andy Gemao set to leave Letran Squires, ventures to the United States

Andy Gemao is preparing to depart from the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Squires as he heads to the United States.

The 6-foot high-flying guard is set to transfer to Veritas Academy National Prep, a Nike Elite high school situated in Malibu, California.

Squires head coach Allen Ricardo expressed his happiness for Gemao as he pursues his basketball dreams in the United States.

“Talagang si Andy, we’re trying to help him reach the international level,” Ricardo said in an interview with Tiebreaker Times.

“Ang goal ko dito sa mga bata na ito is to take them to the next level, which is college, and eventually to the professional league,” he added.

“Siyempre, as a coach, ang fulfillment ay makita ang mga players na umabot sa mas mataas na level,” he further said.

Throughout his one-and-done season with the Squires, Gemao boasted impressive averages of 18.91 points, 7.09 rebounds, 2.91 assists, and 2.18 steals per game. He also played a pivotal role in leading the school to the NCAA Juniors championship.

Had he not chosen to go to the US, Gemao would have been a highly sought-after recruit by the University of the Philippines Fighting Maroons for college basketball.
